Cheung Sheung Country Trail is a favourite hiking trail amongst
hikers and campers. Climbing up steadily from Hoi
Ha Road, there is a distant view of the hillfire
lookout atop Lo Fu Kei Shek on the right. To your
left is the Wong Shek pier at Ko Tong Hau. Further
up, the path passes by Wong Chuk Long, a deserted
and forlorn village.
Cheung Sheung Village, set among
grassy patches, is nestled under rolling peaks far
away from city hustle. The rugged contour of Shek
Uk Shan - Sai Kung's highest crest is within sight.
The old village school used to receive children from
Wong Chuk Long and Cheung Sheung. During the Japanese
Occupation, the school house was used by the anti-Japanese
gorillas as a communications base.
The path soon arrives at Au Mun.
From the lowlands undulating spurs rear up : Kai
Kung Shan and Wa Mei Shan on your left and Shek Uk
Shan on your right. Behind you, the summits of Ngam
Tau Shan and Ngau Yee Shek Shan reach for the clouds.
In the distance, Ma On Shan, Pat Sin Leng and Tolo
Channel offer splendid views.
The next leg is a long and steep
flight of steps that lead down 300m to Yung Shue
O Village. Named Jacob's Ladder by hikers, this section
demands extra care.
