To get to the Trail entrance, walk in the direction
of Bride's Pool Road for about 10 minutes from
Tai Mei Tuk bus terminus. This route skirts along
the eastern slopes of Pat Sin Leng. It is rather
long with some challenging sections.
Following a flight
of steps, the Nature Trail climbs up to a firebreak
formed by rows of Acacia. It is highly tolerant of
flames, has a thick canopy, and understorey growth
is generally sparse. Hence, it is an effective hillfire
interceptor.
Farther ahead,
the spectacular view of Plover Cove Reservoir spread
like emerald velvet along the coast. It is Hong Kong's
first reservoir developed from a natural cove. Work
was completed in 1968 and the main dam was further
extended up to reach a capacity of 230 million cubic meters.
Along the trail
you see many abandoned paddy fields. They are evidences
of the once thriving farming industry. Beyond a crystal
stream, there are chances to see intriguing rock
features and flora. To return, catch a bus or mini
bus in Bride's Pool to Tai Po.
