The route starts at the bottom of Mount Parker Road,
just off King's Road. The uphill route that starts
here, and continues on to Quarry Gap, Mount Butler
and Siu Ma Shan, is along climb so it is best to
walk at a speed - comfortable for you. Going up
along Mount Parker Road, visitors can see different
animals and insects, including squirrels, greater
coucals, butterflies and dragonflies.
Quarry Gap, with
its bird' s eye views over Tai Tam, is popular for
outings. Especially on fine days, the superb scenery
of Tai Tam Country Park cannot be missed. Mounting
the steps to Mount Butler, part of the Hong Kong
Trail, one finally reaches its summit where there
is a - scenic view compass. To the south, one overlooks
Red Hill Peninsula, the southern Hong Kong Island
hills and, far off, Lamma Island. On the other side
is the crowded city, with Quarry Bay, Victoria Harbour,
the old Kai Tak Airport and Lei Yue Mun. The section
of the Hong Kong Trail between Mount Butler and Jardine's
Lookout is a path of relatively high elevation. This
vantage point presents far reaching views of nearby
regions, highlighted by severely excavated slopes
in the north : the Siu Ma Shan granite mines. Hong
Kong is a territory of interconnecting granite and
volcanic rock. Many early buildings were granite
structures.
