From Mui Wo Ferry Pier, walk 1.5 kilometres to the
right and back of the valley and you will come
to Pak Ngan Heung, with its long history. By the
trail there is a Waterfall Garden. Walking up from
there, you come to the Silver Mine Cave where silver
was mined for over a hundred years. Higher up,
the Mong To Au pavilion on the hill crest has excellent
views of Silver Mine Bay, the bay named after the
silver mine. From the gap at Mong To Au, the trail
goes northwest downhill. You will pass some old
villages, at Tai Ho Sun, Tin Liu and Ngau Kwu Long
- and the trail comes to its end at Pak Mong.
Pat Ngan Heung
in Mui Wo Valley on Lantau Island backs onto a thick
fung shui wood. In the past, it was a common rural
belief that trees are related to fung shui. For this
reason, original vegetation behind villages was generally
well preserved. Other flora species of domestic and
economic value were often introduced to the village
woods, and over time, these woodlands developed into
mature forests. A fung shui wood provides both food
and well needed shade. An ideal home for many wild
animals, it has extremely high ecological value.
