Nam Shan to Pak Kung Au Information

This middle distance hike starts at the four-hectare Nam Shan Barbecue Area. From there, walk up through the pinewoods, with views that verlook Pui O. Crossing the 534 metre height point, there is an extensive secondary forest. Crossing Sheung Tung Au you will arrive at Yi Tung Shan. On the hillsides, you will find 20 small weekend shelters built of granite. The back of the granite houses is the top of Sunset Peak, at 869 metres the third highest peak in Hong Kong. Starting at Pak Kung Au to Sunset Peak, there is a two kilometre-long trail.

Among Hong Kong's peaks, Sunset Peak and Yi Tung Shan on Lantau Island rank third and fifth respectively. This region is a band of hard volcanic rock. The ridgeline that stretches from Sheung Tung Au to the west is more than 700 metres above sea level. Together with Lantau Peak in the west, it forms a magnificent mountain range in South Lantau.
