From Tai Po Road, opposite the Kowloon Reservoir, this
trail goes along Section 5 of the Wilson Trail, up
to Sha Tin Pass, and then to Pok Hong Estate in
Sha Tin. The starting point beside Tai Po Road
is also the start of the Kowloon Hills Fitness
Trail. This Fitness Trail is level and has exercise
facilities along its way for visitors. Shelters
are also available for rest. There are interpretative
signs along the Hung Mui Kuk Nature Trail for learning
about nature ecology. The footpath becomes steeper
where the catchwater ends and the trail continues
uphill past Sha Tin Tau village.
Hikers need to
be quite careful on some gravelly sections along
here. There are fine views over Sha Tin and Tai Wai.
At Sha Tin Pass there are food kiosks, and a cooked
food stall. With its wonderful views over Kowloon,
Sha Tin Pass is a good place to rest - before going
down Shui Chuen O footpath to the finish at Pok Hung
Estate.
Amah Rock, so named
for its resemblance to a woman with a young child
on her back, sits atop the northern crest of Lion
Rock. It is in fact an outcrop : the remnant of eroded
granite core. This geological feature is the result
of long period of weathering, during which the material
has gradually eroded to expose a mass period of granite
core.
