Starting from Lugard Road at The Peak, the hike includes
Sections 1 and 2 of the Hong Kong Trail. It passes
along the footpath catch water trail to Aberdeen
Country Park.
Lugard Road circles
the upper slopes of Victoria Peak, and the walk along
its level path allows you to enjoy beautiful views
of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon. There are on-site
interpretative signs here, part of the PeakTrail
which introduce the history and ecology of the Peak
and Pok Fu Lam. Beyond Lugard Road, the trail goes
downhill for some distance and then becomes flat
again. In all about 13 kilometres long, this is quite
a tiring hike but visitors can leave midway, going
down through Pok Fu Lam valley to the main road.
This pleasant walk
begins at the Peak Tram Station and offers sweeping
views of Hong Kong's city skyline. It is indeed amazing
that such a lovely green refuge exists just minutes
from the built-up business districts. During an eruption
of a live volcano in the Late Jurassic Period, underground
magma claimed a wide region and formed extensive
granite bedrock. The heart of this bedrock is today's
Victoria Harbour, Kowloon Peninsula and northern
Hong Kong Island.
