The hike goes through Tai Lam Country Park. Proceeding
along Stage10 of the MacLehose Trail, but in the
opposite direction to the MacLehose, the trail
goes from Ho Fuk Tong (TuenMun) to Pak Shek Hang.
Much of the initial section is the road access
by a catchwater path with a very gentle gradient,
suitable for the entire family to walk easily.
Along the trail are several picnic areas and fitness
facilities. Higher up you can command a view of
Tuen Mun new town. Much farther off, Hong Kong
International Airport lies across the water. At
the end of the catchwater path at Pak Shek Hang,
walking uphill along a forest trail you arrive
at the southern dam of the impressive Tai Lam Chung
Reservoir. After crossing the dam, you can go along
a footpath down to the vehicular access to get
to Palatial Coast.
Constrained by
a lack of freshwater from natural rivers and lakes,
Hong Kong depends on Dongjiang and natural rainfall
for its water supply. Today, one third of our land
has been developed into catchwaters that total 120
km in length. While collecting and diverting rainwater
to our reservoirs.
