This hike, throughTai Tam Country Park, starts at Wong
Nai Chung Reservoir. Across the dam wall, after
going down a few steps and turning left, the trail
begins to wind around Violet Hill. From this catchwater
path one has lovely views over Deep Water Bay,
Brick Hill and Wong Chuk Hang. Where the catchwater
ends, a footpath continues on amidst woodland with
wonderful sea views out across Repulse Bay. Some
sections of - the path here are narrow and rocky,
and visitors should becareful. Where the path winds
into a gap between the surrounding hills, one comes
to Repulse Bay Gap, with an information map. Here,
head downhill towards Tai Tam Intermediate Reservoir,
with its crystal clear brooks and gully streams.
Just beyond this first reservoir, turn right and
continue downhill along Tai Tam Reservoir Road.
Surrounded by fine scenery and woodland, the route
leads on to the finishing point at Tai Tam Tuk
Reservoir.
The northern part
of Tai Tam Country Park is primarily granite terrain.
The southern part is mostly volcanic rock, which
is more resistant to erosion and formed high peaks
like Mount Parker (531m) and Violet Hill (436m).
Violet Hill sits on the contact band where granite
is cloaked by volcanic rock. A hill trail skirts
the mid-slopes and gives dreamy vistas of the Tai
Tam group of reservoirs, Repulse Bay, Deep Water
Bay and other coastal areas of Island South.
